Bookmark it: Classic Japfest, Goodwood Motor Circuit, October 4–5. Liberty Walk Europe’s headline Mazda RX-7 FD – the same showstopper that’s crisscrossed Europe and even spawned a Mini GT model – will be on display all weekend. If you’ve only ever seen it on your feed, this is your chance to get face-to-face with one of LB Europe’s most recognisable builds. Secure your spot now

From Silhouette to Spotlight

Few cars channel Liberty Walk’s rebellious spirit like this FD. It wears the LB Super Silhouette conversion—an outrageous, era-authentic nod to Japan’s late-’70s/early-’80s silhouette racers—so think boxy arches, vast splitters and towering wings that turn every walk-by into a full stop. The bodywork and paint were handled by ColourKraft, while the livery was designed by Blackfish Graphics and applied by Identity Wraps using Inozetek film, creating a jaw-locking first impression that feels retro and futuristic in equal measure.

Project lead James Pearman nearly went white for easy livery swaps – until he clocked how the sharp, squared-off nose echoed a Porsche 935. That moment locked in the now-iconic ‘Petronas’ green paint and endurance-inspired striping. Changing it? Basically impossible now it’s part of the car’s identity.

Mixed-Match Wheels, Maximum Personality

This RX-7 refuses to play by single-era rules. Up front it runs Rotiform LAS-R with Aerodiscs for a pit-lane, prototype vibe; at the rear it rocks Work Meister S1 three-piece (rebuilt by Rimscarnated) to anchor the look in classic JDM flavour. Wrapped in Toyo R888 tyres, the clash is deliberate: modern motorsport at the nose, old-school attitude at the tail. James still has the front Works set – go full Works later? Maybe. For now, the mix is the signature.

To keep those box-arches usable beyond the show stand, the car rides on AirREX air suspension with Air Lift Performance 3P management—drop for display, raise for travel—and an Ultra Racing chassis brace to add backbone when it’s on the move between events.

The Silvia Lining – Why an SR20-Swapped RX-7 Works

Pop the vented bonnet and purists double-take: no rotary! In its place, a Nissan SR20DET – a decision that lights up every comments section. The logic is brutally practical: rotaries love regular use; show cars live on the road and on stands. For a machine that has to travel, idle on stages and fire up on cue, the SR20 delivers tough, tunable reliability without killing the theatre.

This isn’t a token swap. The SR20 has been refreshed and paired with a Pulsar Turbo uprated turbo and intercooler, Turbosmart BOV/FPR6/eBoost2, ECU Master engine management with Digital Display and PMU, plus custom dual side exits and full vehicle wiring by Motor City Performance. Fuel system? ATL cell. Battery? Odyssey. The result is a safe, reliable 450–460bhp package that still sounds unhinged in the best possible way. “It’s a nice, safe setup, powerful, reliable, and it still sounds incredible,” says James.

Built to Travel, Built to Talk

This FD isn’t a garage queen; it’s a continent-hopper. Over the last two years it’s been a headline act from Rotterdam to Portugal, it’s been immortalised as a Mini GT model, and it even features on Liberty Walk Japan merch and special cards. No wonder crowds gather and phones rise wherever it lands! It might be the most attention-grabbing build in Liberty Walk Europe’s roster right now, and the engine-swap debate is half the fun. Love it or hate it, you don’t ignore it.
